Child welfare law relates to any matter in which the Department of Child, Youth and Family Services (CYFS) are involved with you and your children. It can range from CYFS discussing a concern that has been raised by someone about you, the child(ren) other parent or anyone else in the life of your child(ren) all the way to your children being removed from your care and placed in the care or custody of CYFS. The worst possible scenario is when CYFS seeks a continuous custody order, meaning your children would likely be placed for adoption if CYFS obtains such an order.
Child welfare law is no doubt the most emotionally charged area of law imaginable. It is very personal and all-consuming. At Collins Wentzell, we know how emotional this is. We have represented many clients over the years and we always do so with caring and empathy.
YOU NEED A LAWYER!
For us, the first step is to find out what has caused CYFS to become involved with your children and then to find out what needs to be done to correct the situation so CYFS is satisfied your children are not at risk in your care.
Our approach is focused on talking with CYFS, being co-operative and doing what needs to be done to satisfy CYFS.
So, how do we do that?
WE will meet with you to go over everything with you.
WE will contact CYFS or their lawyer to find out what they want to see done.
WE go with you to meetings with CYFS to talk everything through.
WE represent you in all aspects of court proceedings.
WE will try everything possible to resolve the matter to your satisfaction without having to go to trial.
But, if that doesn't work WE WILL GO TO COURT AND FIGHT FOR YOU.
OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE YOUR CHILDREN COME HOME AND STAY HOME!
